The Beauty Of Perennial Flowers - Why Grow Perennial Flowers In Your Garden

For anyone who wants plants which flower and look beautiful for a number of years, perennial flowers are most definitely the answer. Unlike annuals, which live and bloom for only one season, perennial flowers, will continue to give pleasure for a very long time.

Although perennial plants take longer to bloom, the benefits of perennials, will be appreciated once they start. It may often take two years or more for perennial flowers to reach their full potential, but once they do, you will be able to split them or take cuttings, to produce many more plants.

However, some perennial flowers may become something of a problem, as they grow into such a large plant, that they may completely take over the flower bed. Because of this, it is important that their planting place is chosen with care.

To enjoy flowers in the garden, for most of the year, it is a good idea, to plant perennial flowers and annuals in the same bed. Once the latter have finished flowering, the perennials will be beginning to bloom. These will continue until the end of the season.

As many of the annuals will drop seeds in the garden, with just a little careful weeding and feeding, many plants will continue to appear every year, amongst the perennial flowers. In fact, some annuals, such as the balsams, can if not treated rather harshly, completely take over the flower bed.

Each year, as seeds are dropped, the annual plants will appear in a different place, and may even change the appearance of their flowers. It is easy however, to sow more seeds or plant more annuals, to fill the gaps.

The perennial flowers, may also shed seeds, if allowed to do so, but of course their seedlings, will not come into flower for at least another year. It is wise to remember, that they in turn will grow to the size of the parent plant, so leaving them to grow may not be the best solution.

New plants, which grow like this, can be transplanted to another part of the garden, or given away to friends and family. It is always nice to receive a gift of perennial flowers, for the garden and who knows, they may return the favour. Many a neighbourhood has similar plants in nearly every garden, and no-one knows where exactly they originated.
